migration planner

Every URL, before anything is designed.

Paste your sitemap or a list of addresses. The planner sorts them by template, keeps every path it can, and flags the few that need a redirect or a decision. It runs in your browser, and nothing is sent.

Up to 20,000 URLs. Nothing leaves this tab.

How the planner decides.

  • Keep by default. Astro can serve the paths your site already has, so an address that does not change needs no redirect.
  • Files move. WordPress uploads and Squarespace file links live on the old host. They are re-hosted, and the old link is redirected where the path changes.
  • ID links need a person. A WordPress ?p= link points at a post by number; only you know which page it should land on now.
  • Query strings are checked. Most are tracking and change nothing; some pick the content. Each one is listed so you can tell which.
  • One slash style. If every address ends the same way, the new site matches it and nothing moves for the sake of a slash.

What it cannot see: pages missing from the sitemap, links from other sites, and traffic. Check those before launch.

Questions about the planner.

Why does it keep almost everything?

Because almost everything can be kept. Astro can serve the same paths your site has now, and an address that does not change needs no redirect at all. The planner only flags what the old platform forces to move, and what needs a person to decide.

Is my sitemap the whole site?

Usually not. Pages hidden from the sitemap, old campaign URLs and addresses other sites link to can all be missing. Treat the plan as the starting list, then check your analytics and backlinks for traffic to anything it does not show. The migration guides cover what to look for on each platform.

Where does my sitemap go?

Nowhere. The planner runs in this tab on the text you pasted. Nothing is uploaded, stored or sent, and closing the tab clears it.

Which redirect file should I use?

The destination is Astro on Cloudflare. You get a `_redirects` file with one rule per line and the 301 written out.
